A Few Reasons Why I Am Single

 1. I like to be
I don't feel the need to be with somebody to be happy. I feel that being in a good relationship is a bonus, but not a necessity in life. The moment I got out of my last relationship, I felt like I was released from jail. I've been so happy ever since and I know I could continue to live a great life as a single lady. I know that I don't need to get married to live the life that I want to live.

2. I'm very picky
I know what I want and don't want in a guy. I am picky about how I want to be treated. I want to be respected. Also, if I'm not interested in a guy, I'm not just gonna go out with him to go out. I don't want to waste anyone's time.

3.  I'm tired of guys not making an effort
I feel like guys don't pick up the phone to call you or ask you out in person anymore. Phone calls can be awkward, but it's a nice touch.  Guys don't organize the first dates anymore.  The last two dates that I went on were planned by me. So annoying.

4.  I enjoy my own company/ I am comfortable with my ways
I like to do things alone. My "me" time is everything to me. I don't want to lose that.

5.  I have trust issues
Those who are close to me know that my last serious relationship was not a healthy one.  I was mistreated. It's hard to trust people again or to let people get close to me. I'm afraid to let people in. I push people away.

6. I am not interested in the guys who like me or the guys I like aren't interested in me
I am not good at reading people. If someone I like likes me. I usually never know.  If you never ask me out or if you don't tell me how you feel, I won't know. If the guy I like doesn't reach out to me or takes days to communicate, I'll take that as disinterest.

Stalked Part 3

Today has been an interesting day to say the least. I walked my usual five miles and reached the road where I had parked my car. The street that I parked on had no cars on it except for mine and a  1990s Red Ford F-350 truck parked directly behind me. I found it bizarre that people would park right behind me, when I parked so far away from the trail entrance. Nevertheless, I started to walk toward my car and I noticed there were two guys sitting in the red car. I went ahead and I took a picture of the car behind mine and I decided to walk back to the trail entrance and wait for them to leave. A few minutes passed and they were still sitting there. A friendly old man walked by me and started a conversation. I told him what was going on and he offered to walk me to my car and I accepted. He said, "I'm going to hug you. Don't act freaked out." I pretended he was my dad and said, "Bye, Dad. Love you." I unlocked my car and started it. The second I turned my car on, I heard the truck behind me turn on. It had a really loud engine. I quickly made a u-turn and thanked the old man through the window.  The red truck also made a u-turn and the old man yelled for me to go fast. I sped off as quick as I could and made sure to pull into a place where they wouldn't suspect where I was. Apparently that's something you're not supposed to do, but it saved me. I called the cops and they sent someone to me. I gave them the description of the car and of the driver. I got a really good glimpse of the driver and was able to describe him perfectly. It wasn't anyone I knew. I got a quick glimpse of the passenger, but not enough to really describe him well. The police officer thanked me for paying close attention and asked me to e-mail the picture of the truck to her.
I always pay attention on the trail to each person and I am constantly looking over my shoulder (something else you're not supposed to do). Now that I remember properly, I think I saw the truck drive by me when I was entering the trail.  I am a bit shaken up. This isn't my first time at this rodeo. If you look back through my old posts, you'll see two other ones talking about other encounters that I've experienced. Luckily, I have come out okay of each situation unharmed, but that doesn't take away from how unsettling it feels to experience this.
The moral of the story, again, is to be aware of your surroundings and do not walk alone. I need to practice what I preach. I always nag at my little sister and tell her to be careful at her college and to be extremely careful about walking alone at certain places. Also, it is extremely important to not be looking down at your phone, but to always look people in the eye and pay attention as you walk.  I'll be bringing my special friend, pepper spray,  on my next walk and I won't be going to the same place for a while. I'd also like to give a shout out to my best friend, Melissa, who came over and calmed me down after this happened.

Update: Five days since the incident and I still haven't returned to the same place. I am still rather shaken by the whole thing. Having pepper spray doesn't make me feel any safer. If a bad guy was double my size and grabbed me what good would the pepper spray do? I am not going to live in fear because of my gender, but I am going to take extra precautions.

Here are some tips on what to do if you suspect you're being stalked...

Things You Should Stop Doing By The Time You're 25

I saw a list of things you should stop doing by age 25 and I thought it was stupid, so I decided to make my own list.

1. Comparing Yourself/ Your Life to Others'
I've talked about this in another one of my posts, but honestly it's unhealthy to compare yourself to others. You don't have to do everything like everyone else. Someone got engaged, married, had a baby, moved in with their boyfriend, moved to Europe, got a $100k salary job? Great! Just live your life and good things will come to you if you stay positive. You don't have to follow a certain timeline or accomplish things at a certain time. Be happy for people.

2. Flaking Out On People
Don't commit to something or say you will do something if you don't want to to do it or if you know you won't be able to. If you're too busy or if something comes up, at least have the decency to tell them that instead of not showing up all together. I am not perfect, I've been a flake before, but I straight up tell people if I don't want to do something or if I won't be able to. I've never stood someone up. I have come to realize people will eventually give up on you if you always flake out.  I am not a high maintenance friend but I believe in common courtesy. At the very least give people a heads up. Sometimes you're going to have to cancel, but that's different than constantly not showing up.

3. Taking Your Parents for Granted
You're getting older and so are your parents. You never know how much time you will have with them. Appreciate everything they have done/ do for you. Thank them. Call them. Take them out to eat. Visit them etc.

4. Playing Games (Dating wise)
I am so picky when it comes to dating that I don't just talk to anyone. I'm not a needy girl, I like to be single and don't need a relationship to be happy, but for the love of God don't play games if we start talking. I hate it when people play games. Just be real and be upfront.  Don't take days to respond to texts.  If you're not feeling it, be honest. That's all.  Don't waste my time. Everyone checks their phone at least once a day. If you've got time for Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook, you've got time to send a darn text. We aren't in high school anymore, y'all. Games aren't cute.

5.  Caring What People Think
I have altogether stopped caring about what people expect from me or think of me. It's my life to live and I'm going to do it my way. People always have the nerve to comment on my film industry work and how it's not stable income or a "real job." If they aren't your bills to pay, it's not your business.  Don't worry about me. "Worry bout yo self." LOL

What I Look For in a Guy

I wrote the same blog post about four years ago. My taste in men has changed since then, but I still want most of the same things. Here's an updated list on what it'll for me to not be single. LOL

Maturity
I'm too old for games.  Don't be the guy that plays games or takes days to respond to texts or to call. If you're not feeling it, just tell me. Be upfront with me, please.

- Positive Attitude (Preferably an optimist)

- Confidence
Conceited ain't cute, honey. There's a difference between being confident and cocky.

- Understanding
I don't have a set schedule with work. I jump from movie to movie, job to job, anything to pay the bills. I don't want a "real" job. I like working in the film industry. I cannot sit in a cubicle or behind a computer for 45 + hours a week and be happy. That is just not me. Also, I've been single for so long that I really enjoy spending time with my friends or having "me" time. I am not the clingy type and clingy guys scare me.  I look forward to meeting a guy that I will want to spend a lot of time with, though. I need a guy who is okay with all of that.

- Gentleman

- Has A Social Life
Hopefully he'll have lots of his friends of his own and can do his own thing when I need space.

- Has Ambition

- Family Oriented

HB 757- It Ain't Over Yet

Part of me is celebrating that Governor Deal chose to veto House Bill 757, but the other part of me is still very concerned. A couple of senators have said that if Deal planned on vetoing the bill, they would fight to override the veto.
Our fight to prevent religious discrimination isn't over yet... To convince Senator Crane to let the veto stand, call his office at 470-400-9455

HB 757

For those of you who don't know, there's a possibility that a bill that would discriminate against many people could be passed in Georgia. It would also allow faith-based companies to fire people for their sexuality and it would allow them to deny services to those whom they do not support based on their religious beliefs. If you don't support the LGBT community, that's on you, but even the Pope has said, "The Church must search out these persons, welcome and accompany them, for a Church with closed doors betrays herself and her mission, and, instead of being a bridge, becomes a roadblock.”
This bill wouldn't only affect the LGBT community, but also unmarried couples, women, racial minorities, religious minorities, people living with disabilities and many more.  For more specific information on the bill, click here ( http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/en-US/display/20152016/HB/757 ) It's imperative that this bill does not get passed, not only because it's the right thing, but also because a lot of people's jobs and livelihoods depend on it.

Companies That Have Threatened to Leave Georgia If HB 757 Gets Passed

  • Disney
  • Marvel
  • AMC
  • Viacom
  • Fox
  • Time Warner
  • Salesforce
  • Telecom
  • Lionsgate
  • Comcast
  • Sony Pictures
  • Starz
  • DISCA
  • Netflix & many more
I have heard a lot of people say "Governor Deal probably won't sign it." That doesn't make me feel any better. The fact that the bill is even an idea or that it has made it to the governor's desk makes me sick. I refuse to wait and see what Governor Deal ends up doing. We need to voice our concerns and be heard. Discrimination of any kind is unacceptable. We have come too far for this nonsense.

For those who do believe that people should be turned away/discriminated against, here are some bible quotes for you.

1 John 4:20 - Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

Hebrews 13:2- Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Matthew 7:1- Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

To encourage Governor Deal to Veto this bill....

    1. You can call his office and leave a message and ask him to veto the bill.
you can call the governors office 404-656-1776 and say you want to tell the governor to veto bill 757!

    2. You can e-mail his office by following the steps on this page.

    3. You can also attend a rally on April 5th at the capital.
    http://action.gaunites.org/page/s/hb757rally
If I am not working that day, I will be there to show my support for the LGBT community and for many other people that this bill would affect including all my friends that work in the film industry.
