Do be an extra if....
- You like meeting new people.
- You want to see how movies/TV shows are shot.
- You are good at following instructions.
- You want the chance to see celebrities.
- You don't care about working long hours with little to no food.
- You can stand still for long periods of times.
- You understand that the movie is about the main actors and you will not receive the special treatment that they receive.
- You understand that you will most likely not talk to the main actors.
- You understand that once you confirm your availability you should stay as long as they need you. If you leave early they will never use you again.
- You can take criticism/rejection.
Don't be an extra if..
- You are only doing it for screen time. There is no guarantee that you will be seen in the final cut of the show or movie.
- You think you'll be discovered or upgraded to a featured extra. Featured extras are usually chosen beforehand based on the head shot submissions.
- You are impatient.
- Have a hard time sitting still.
- Have a hard time following instructions.
- Have a hard time staying quiet.
- You expect the special treatment that the main actors receive.
- Have a hard time remaining professional.
- You don't have arrangements to watch your kids/animals. Leaving set before shooting is done is completely irresponsible and looked down upon. They'll most likely never use you again.
I've been a background artist/ extra eight times now. Three of those times were on television shows and the other five times, I was in feature films.
Differences between the TV and movie sets that I have worked on...
- Television shows usually have lower budgets and the craft services and catering is usually not as good for the extras. I recently worked on a TV show (which I will not name) where we were given these nasty roast beef sandwiches and pork rinds. Somebody actually found a worm in their sandwich. On the movie sets that I have worked on we were given steaks, rice, vegetables, chicken, shrimp and cakes for dessert. Also, movie sets have better snacks some television shows don't even have snacks or water for you in between takes and meals so you will starve to death.
- Surprisingly, the movie sets that I have worked on were more laid back than the television shows. I felt more intimidated on the TV shows than the movies which is not what you would expect.
Dos and Do nots
- Do be flexible. The assistant directors and production assistants don't like people who complain and don't want to do what they are asked to do.
- Don't whine. It'll make you look bad and unprofessional.
- Don't look at the camera. They will either kick you off set, embarrass you, or you will be cut from the movie.
- Do network with the crew and your fellow background folks.
- Don't ask for a picture with the celebrities. You can get in huge trouble. If the cast offers that is a completely different story (most likely that will never happen- sorry :-( ).
- Don't gawk at the celebrities. They are regular people they just have cooler jobs than us, but they are not objects.
- Don't ask people to hire you as a crew member. It was hard enough for them to get a job and they are most likely not in the position to hire you.
- Do ask the production assistants for job advice when they are not busy.
- Do bring lots of options for wardrobe to choose from.
- Do bring snacks and water so that you can eat in between shoots.
- ALWAYS BRING A PEN to fill out your pay voucher.
- Do come prepared for the weather. If there's a chance that it will rain, it will save you. Sometimes you still shoot in the rain or you have to stand outside because you are on location and not in a studio.
I will add more to this if I think of anything else.

5 Signs You Should Not Date Him/Her
1. They have no friends
- The fact that they have no friends could mean a lot of things. Maybe they just moved into town and haven't had a chance to meet anyone, maybe they're anti-social, rude, or shy. When your significant other has no friends that can either be a good thing or a bad thing. It really depends on the person that you are. Do you like spending every second with your bf/gf? I know I didn't. Them not having friends means that there is more pressure on you to be with them if you don't want to be with them every second. Although, them not having friends might be a good thing if you are the clingy type.
2. Your friends don't like him/her
- Your parents are not always the best judge of who is good for you. Parents are very picky and literally only want the best for their children, but if your friends don't like him/her then you should see what reasons they have for those feelings and think it over a little.
3. He/ she makes you feel like crap about yourself
- There's a difference between someone trying to make you healthier because they want you to live a long time and someone who is criticizing you and telling you that you should not eat too much. You need to be with somebody who makes you confident not somebody who makes you feel like poo. Also, be with somebody who accepts you for you.
4. He doesn't pay for the first date
- Called me old fashioned, but I feel like the man should always pay for the first date. If a girl denies you wanting to pay, she's being polite, still pay. It's ok later on in the relationship to take turns, but if a guy doesn't pay for the first date chances are he's not a gentleman.
5. He/ She is not family oriented
- A guy that is not family oriented is a red flag. If a guy isn't close to his family then there's a chance he will keep you away from your family and tension will rise in your family. In the long run, do you want to be with someone who doesn't like family time? Didn't think so

Set Life
As many of you know, I am a nanny and film student. I will be retiring from child care in August after four years in the service (ha). My school schedule will no longer allow me to pick up the kids on time and stay with them. I am deeply saddened to leave this family. They are the most kind people that I have worked for and I have grown very attached to them. Anyway, this past month I have been alternating weeks of my nanny job with my sister. She will be going to college in August and really needs to start saving up so I offered to let her work for my family so I can also have some time off which has been great and I have had great opportunities during that time off.
My dream has always been to work in the film industry, and as many of you know the industry in Atlanta has been growing for quite some time now. Back in March, I was an extra for The Vampire Diaries which was a dream come true. I really like that show and Ian Somerhalder (every woman needs a sweet guy like that) After that, I really wanted to be an extra again, but my school schedule and work schedule would not permit to do so. This summer during my time off, I have been an extra in two feature films; Solace and the remake of Endless Love. SUCH A DREAM COME TRUE!!! JESUS! I don't care about my screen time, but seeing how movies are filmed and seeing huge actors do their job is amazing!! I've seen Anthony Hopkins, Alex Pettyfer, Abbie Cornish, Robert Patrick, and Joely Richardson. I've made lots of friends that have similar aspirations like mine and I have also made friends that are on the crew. Something that made me feel very special was the fact that the wardrobe lady from Vampire Diaries (Edee) recognized me on the set of Solace and asked if I had worked with her before. Such a kind lady!
After being an extra in these movies, I have come to a realization that I do not want to work in post production, I want to be on set and see the action happen. I either want to be an actress/producer/director or all of them haha. I will update you guys on my other activities as an extra that I am sure will come this summer.

What's up with Dre?
I haven't posted anything in a while. I don't really have anything interesting to say. I started spring semester on January 15. I'll be honest, I'm disappointed with my classes. I know school shouldn't always be fun, but I regret minoring in Spanish and not in theater. I'm taking a Spanish literature class,a Spanish culture class, a film class and an online class. I am really disappointed with my film class this semester. It's not hands on like my class from last semester, it's more of a lecture class. That class along with Spanish literature are my least favorites. Lucky for me, my online class is really easy and I'm enjoying my Hispanic culture class because it's discussion based. I miss my film class from last semester. I learned a lot and realized that editing is something I really enjoy. Ok enough of the school talk...
I've been doing a lot of thinking about friendships. Some I just wonder if they are really worth it. I'll just leave it at that.
I have also realized that I have feelings for a guy who will never read this. He's Twitterless. It's been a while since I've liked someone after my last relationship. I really have avoided any chance of relationship since 2011 because my last one was not a good one. I friend zoned some guys because I was afraid and now they're in relationships. It sucks to like someone who is taken. I frown upon people who try to sabotage relationships, so I would never do that and I would never tell him that I like him. I'm too scared lol.
Alright blog readers, let's talk money now. Something my friends have had a really hard time understanding is that I am trying to not go out to eat as much and to save money. I am dirt poor, but I am trying to save up for a Macbook pro. Anyone involved in the film industry needs a Macbook Pro. C'mon now! I'm also saving up $900 for a catalittic converter or whatever that's called. My car needs a new one and the check engine light will not shut off until I replace it. My friends have been taking me denying them in going out as rejection.
On a happy note, I made the Dean's list last semester. It's amazing how much your grades can improve after you rid yourself of negative aspects in your life. I've been working for this one family for sixteen months and I swear I have not had one bad day with them. The kids are angels. They have not once been put in time out. The family got me Uggs for Christmas. They have always shown so much appreciation to me and I'm so grateful to have them in my life.
Last topic, I started a pill 30 days ago. It's not because something is wrong with me, it's because of my skin insecurities. It completely rids your face of breakouts. The dermatologist prescribed it to me. My skin has never been that bad. I can't say that I've had the worst breakouts ever. I have inherited an occasional and noticeable but not horrid breakout every so often. I'm 22 and I've pretty much tried everything and nothing has permanently gotten rid of my small and random breakouts. I'm at that point where I just don't want to get breakouts anymore. This pill dries your skin out tremendously and it's a process for sure. You're on this pill for a few months and you have to get blood work once a month to make sure this pill is not ruining your organs. I HATE NEEDLES. Every time they take my blood and stick a needle in the blood will stop flowing into the vile and they have to insert it again. I hate it so much. It's a serious pill, I had paperwork to sign. There are some scary side effects that can occur. but lucky for me my only side effect is really dry skin. I have had friends who have taken this pill and they look like models now. I have seen quite an improvement and I am thrilled and just to be clear this is not BC it's more hardcore.
I don't know why I shared this with the internet, but I just felt like venting and writing. Thanks for reading.

If you wanna be my lover...
A lot of these preferences are common among women but I just felt like talking about somethings I want and don't want in a man.
1. Patience with my slow cooking- I am no master chef. I remember trying to cook for my ex one time and he complained that I was too slow at chopping up at vegetables. He made me feel irrelevant. If I'm attempting to cook for, you please be patient!
2. Must love dogs- C'mon how can you not love dogs? There's nothing more attractive than a guy who is good to animals and there's nothing more unattractive then a guy who mistreats animals.
3. Cultured- by cultured I mean someone who loves to travel and is open to eating different kinds of foods and learning about different cultures.
4. Not racist- unfortunately I hate to say this, but I know way too many racist people here in the south and I can't be with a racist guy.
5. Can cook- I don't want a guy who doesn't know how to cook. I don't really know how but I will learn and I want both of us to be able to cook.
6. Accept me for me- Who doesn't want somebody to accept them for who they are? I'm a strange one though. I love horror movies and zombie movies and that's not always a typical girly thing so I hope that my future bf or hubs will accept me for that.
7. Family oriented- I don't want someone with severe daddy/mommy issues. I want someone that is close to their family and gets along with them.
8. Rarely cranky- no matter how tired you are you should never let your attitude out on people.
9. Has Morals/understands morals- You'd be surprised. I want someone patient who respects my morals.

Highlands 2012
We had a great time in North Carolina this weekend. We enjoyed a hike on Saturday and relaxed the rest of the time at our friend Julia's cabin. I went with my mom and we met Julia, Tabitha, and Betty there. Here are some pics from the trip.
